If you hold a non-UK qualification and plan to work, study, or seek professional recognition in the United Kingdom, you may need a Statement of Comparability issued by UK ENIC. This document explains how your qualification compares to UK education levels.
Important note: Always check the official UK ENIC website at https://www.enic.org.uk and the specific Statement of Comparability service page for the most up-to-date information on fees, required documents, and processing times before applying.
Step 1: Decide Which ENIC Service You Need
UK ENIC provides a Statement of Comparability for overseas qualifications used for:
- Employment
- Further study
- Professional recognition
In some cases—particularly for regulated professions—you may instead be asked for a UK Qualification Reference Statement. Always confirm with the employer, university, or professional body which document is required before applying.
Step 2: Create or Log In to Your ENIC Account
Visit https://www.enic.org.uk
Navigate to Services → Statement of Comparability
Register for an online account (email verification required), or log in if you already have an account
Step 3: Prepare Your Required Documents
Prepare clear, high-quality PDF scans of the following documents:
- Degree certificate or provisional certificate (showing qualification title and award date)
- Full official transcript or mark sheet (including modules, credits, levels, and award date)
- Diploma supplement, programme specification, or module descriptions (if available)
- Passport or national ID (photo page)
- Certified or notarised copies (only if specifically requested by ENIC)
- Certified English translations for documents not issued in English (translator details and stamp may be required)
Ensure all documents are legible and complete to avoid delays.
Step 4: Submit the Online Application
- Select “Statement of Comparability” in your ENIC account
- Complete the online form with: Personal details, Country of study, Awarding institution, Qualification title and award date, Purpose of assessment (employment, further study, or professional recognition)
- Upload documents in the required formats and file sizes
- Label files clearly (e.g., Transcript_JohnDoe.pdf)
Step 5: Fees and Payment
Fees may change, so always verify current costs on the UK ENIC website.
Typical fee structure (indicative):
- Standard Statement of Comparability: approximately £50–£100
- Optional priority or expedited service: additional £30–£80
Extra charges may apply for:
- Printed and signed copies
- Postal delivery
- Additional verification or certified document checks
Payment is made online by debit or credit card. Keep your payment confirmation for reference.
Processing Times (Indicative Only)
- Standard service: usually 10–25 working days after ENIC receives a complete application
- Priority service (if available): often 5–10 working days after full submission and payment
Processing may take longer if ENIC requests certified originals, third-party verification, or additional documentation.
Step 6: Verification Requests and Follow-Up
UK ENIC may contact you to request:
- Certified or notarised copies
- Additional documents
- Verification from the awarding institution
Respond promptly and follow their instructions carefully to avoid delays.
Step 7: Receiving Your Statement
Once the assessment is complete:
- An electronic Statement of Comparability (PDF) will be issued to your ENIC account and email
- If you requested a printed and signed copy, it will be sent by post to your provided address (delivery time varies)
Step 8: Using Your Statement of Comparability
You can submit the Statement to:
- Employers
- Universities
- UK professional or regulatory bodies
For regulated professions, always check with the relevant UK authority to confirm whether additional steps or assessments are required.
